  1. For intelligence, ravens rate up with chimpanzees and dolphins. These birds have the largest brain of any bird species. Ravens can push rocks on people to keep them from climbing to their nests and play dead to scare other ravens away from a delicious meal. If a raven knows another raven is watching, it hides its food. It pretends to put the food in one place but hides it in another.
  2. It’s amazing to watch ravens sliding on snow-covered roofs. For entertainment, they also roll down snowy hills. Ravens often play keep-away with other animals like wolves, foxes and dogs. They even make toys - a rare animal behaviour - from sticks, pine cones, golf balls, or rocks, to play with each other or by themselves. When they feel bored, they mock other creatures and find it very amusing.

  3. According to surveys, the ravens are one of the main reasons why tourists come to see the Tower of London. Nobody knows when the ravens first appeared there but there is a belief that at least six ravens must always remain on the territory of the Tower. Otherwise, the British Monarchy may fall. To prevent the birds from flying away their wings are clipped every three weeks.

  4. In the past, in some cultures, people were truly afraid of these dark birds. In Germany, ravens were considered to be the incarnation of criminals’ souls or sometimes Satan himself. In Sweden, ravens were thought to be the souls of murdered people. And in Denmark, people believed that it was dangerous to look at ravens because you could turn into a raven yourself.

  5. Sometimes people find injured ravens and take them home but keeping a raven as a pet is really difficult. These birds require a lot of care, a lot of freedom, and a lot of time. Ravens are wild creatures, and are not pets in the same way as cats and dogs are. If the bird is strong and healthy, it is unfair and cruel to keep it in captivity. In some countries it’s even illegal. So if you really love and admire these birds, enjoy them from a distance!

  6. Crows and ravens are often confused with each other because they are both black birds. Even people who are well aware of the differences between the two birds can get confused. You can tell them apart by their voice and differences in their behaviour. Ravens are larger than crows, with thicker beaks, and longer tails. Ravens have a deeper voice than crows.

The Open Window

Mr. Nuttel, a young gentleman, came to live in the country. The doctors said a quiet place like that and complete rest could help cure his nerves. He didn’t know anyone round there and was too shy to make new acquaintances. That is why his sister gave him letters of introduction to some nice people she knew.

One of the letters was to Mrs. Sappleton. When Mr. Nuttel visited her, Mrs Sappleton was busy and he was asked to wait for several minutes. The servant invited Mr. Nuttel into a room. There Mr. Nuttel met Mrs. Sappleton’s niece, a very self-confident young lady of fifteen. The young gentleman was very shy and he didn’t know how to start the conversation. That is why the young lady broke the silence and asked him what he knew about her aunt. Mr. Nuttel knew nothing except Mrs. Sappleton’s name and address.

Mr. Nuttel looked around. There was something about the room that told him there were other people living in the house. So he was wondering if Mrs. Sappleton was married. Suddenly the girl got sad and told a story of Mrs. Sappleton’s tragedy. Mr. Nuttel was greatly surprised because his sister hadn’t told him anything about it. The tragedy was very unusual for that peaceful place.

The girl pointed at the French window, which opened on to the lawn and said that Mrs. Sappleton always kept it open. Mr. Nuttel stated that it was natural to keep the window open because the weather was quite warm. But the girl sighed and explained that her poor aunt always kept the window open in the evenings because she was waiting for her husband and sons to return. Three years ago they had gone hunting and never came back. The story caught Mr. Nuttel’s imagination deeply. He felt very upset.

He felt a little better only when Mrs. Sappleton finally appeared in the room. She apologized for being late and asked if he minded the open window. She said her husband and sons would soon be home from hunting. They always came in that way. Then, she continued talking cheerfully about hunting ducks. But Mr. Nuttel felt terrible.

He made an attempt to change the topic and told her about the reasons why he had come to the country. But Mrs. Sappleton didn’t seem to notice. She was constantly looking at the open window. Mr. Nuttel felt uncomfortable. He understood that he had chosen the wrong moment to visit her. Suddenly Mrs. Sappleton cried happily pointing at the window, “Here they are at last, just in time for tea!” Three male figures were walking across the lawn towards the window. They carried guns and a dog followed them.

Shocked and afraid, Mr. Nuttel grabbed his stick and hat and rushed out of the house. Mrs. Sappleton was extremely surprised at the extraordinary man who had left the house so quickly without a word. Her niece suggested that it was because of the dog. She said that Mr. Nuttel had been afraid of them sincechildhood - once, a dog had seriously bitten him. This was enough to make the young man lose his nerve. The young lady was so good at making up stories!

Mr. Nuttel came to the village to improve his health.

Мониторинг обученности английскому языку в 9-10 классах.

В 9-10 классах мониторинг осуществлялся по теме «Времена активного залога». Система контроля включала в себя три тестирования: первичный контроль, повторный контроль и закрепляющий. После каждого тестирования был проведен анализ ошибок. Итоговая работа направлена на обобщение.

Главной задачей являлось научить детей ориентироваться в временах, систематизировать все знания.

Вся работа с временами активного залога была разделена на три блока:

  • Настоящие времена

  • Прошедшие времена

  • Времена для описания будущих действий

Настоящие времена

Задание 1. Заполните графы таблицы временными формами глагола to read в 1 л. ед. ч. Под каждым глаголом напишите русский перевод и указатели времени (например, «сейчас»)

Мониторинг обученности английскому языку в 9-10 классах.

В 9-10 классах мониторинг осуществлялся по теме «Времена активного залога». Система контроля включала в себя три тестирования: первичный контроль, повторный контроль и закрепляющий. После каждого тестирования был проведен анализ ошибок. Итоговая работа направлена на обобщение.

Главной задачей являлось научить детей ориентироваться в временах, систематизировать все знания.

Вся работа с временами активного залога была разделена на три блока:

  • Настоящие времена

  • Прошедшие времена

  • Времена для описания будущих действий

Настоящие времена

1 контроль.

Задание 1. Заполните графы таблицы временными формами глагола to read в 1 л. ед. ч. Под каждым глаголом напишите русский перевод и указатели времени (например, «сейчас»)

Мониторинг обученности английскому языку в 9-10 классах.

The University of Cambridge was founded in the twelfth century. It was formed on the model of European continental universities, in particular that of Paris. Until the fifteenth century the history of Cambridge was not as significant as that of Oxford. The Bermuda Triangle

On December 5th, 1945 five US Navy planes took off from Fort Lauderdale In Florida. There were 14 pilots on board. Some time after the take off the control tower got a message from one of the planes. “There’s something wrong. The magnetic compass is going crazy. We don’t know where we are.” Soon the five planes disappeared. Boats and planes went immediately to look for the lost planes but they were not successful. There were neither crashed planes nor dead bodies. The accident happened in the area called Bermuda Triangle. It/s a large part of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Southern Florida Puerto Rico. Many ships, planes and about 1,000 people have disappeared in this area. One of the explanations is that underwater earthquakes cause huge waves called tsunami. They also produce very strong winds. Both can destroy ships and planes. Another theory says that there is a strange magnetic force in this area. It can really break a ship into pieces. Scientists also speak about the methane gas on the sea floor of the Bermuda Triangle. When it comes out and mixes with the air, it’s so powerful that it can stop the ship/s or the plane’s engine. It can also start a fire. Than the explosion destroys the ship or the plane completely. Some people believe that aliens carry away people together with the machines. Whatever the truth is there is no clear answer.

СОДЕРЖАНИЕ И СТРУКТУРА

КОНТРОЛЬНЫХ ИЗМЕРИТЕЛЬНЫХ МАТЕРИАЛОВ

Специфика иностранного языка как школьного предмета состоит в том, что его изучение в значительной степени строится на формировании коммуникативной компетенции, т. е. способности и готовности осуществлять иноязычное межличностное и межкультурное общение с носителями языка. Являясь существенным элементом культуры народа – носителя данного языка и средством передачи ее другим, иностранный язык способствует формированию у школьников целостной картины мира. Владение иностранным языком повышает уровень гуманитарного образования школьников, способствует формированию личности и ее социальной адаптации к условиям постоянно меняющегося поликультурного, полиязычного мира. Иностранный язык расширяет лингвистический кругозор учащихся, способствует формированию культуры общения, содействует общему речевому развитию учащихся. В этом проявляется взаимодействие всех языковых учебных предметов, способствующих формированию основ филологического образования школьников.

Итоговая контрольная работа состоит из 4 заданий, направленные на изучение сформированности языковых знаний и навыков в 9 классе.

Задание 1 ориентировано на проверку навыка поискового чтения, в процессе которого ученик начинает лучше ориентироваться в структуре и содержании текста, понимает часть информации, не прибегая к словарю. Тем самым полное понимание текстовой информации достигается быстрее и более эффективным способом – самостоятельно. Ученику необходимо прочитать текст и выбрать к вопросам 1-5 правильные варианты ответов.

В задании 2 проверяется знание лексических единиц языка по одной из тем, изучаемых в текущем учебном году. Для его выполнения необходимо прочитать письмо и дополнить предложения словами из таблицы. Лексика является одним из основных компонентов речевого общения и выступает в речи в тесной взаимосвязи с фонетикой и грамматикой.

При выполнении задания 3 учащиеся также должны продемонстрировать свои грамматические навыки (условные предложения; модальные, фразовые глаголы; страдательный залог). Школьникам предлагается 10 предложений с выбором ответов, которые они должны занести в таблицу.

Задание 4 содержит текст, в котором даны пропуски и учащиеся должны вставить слова, изменив их по смыслу. В упражнении раскрывается основной способ словообразования – аффиксация.

Для оценивания результатов выполнения работ учащимися наряду с традиционной отметкой «2», «3», «4» и «5» применяется и ещё один количественный показатель – общий балл, который формируется путём подсчета общего количества баллов, полученных учащимися за выполнение каждой части работы. Каждое задание промежуточной аттестации оценивается в 1 балл. Таким образом, за работу обучающийся может набрать максимальное количество баллов – 27. С помощью общего балла, расширяющего традиционную шкалу оценивания, во-первых, проводится более тонкая дифференциация подготовки по иностранному языку, во-вторых, отметка несёт больше информации, Общий балл нагляден, легко интерпретирует учителем, учеником, родителями. Итак, шкала перевода набранных баллов в отметку:

0-7 балла – «2»;

8-14 баллов – «3»;

15-22 баллов – «4»;

23-27 баллов – «5».

На выполнение контрольной работы отводится 40 минут.

The best picture

When Sebastian was a boy at school, his favourite lesson was art, and he won several prizes for it. Once he left school, he got a position as a clerk in a bank, but three times a week he went to evening classes in art, and whenever he had time at the weekends, he painted.

He painted in a very modern manner – mysterious objects and shapes, women with three pink eyes, large blank areas, and so on.

After a few months he thought, “Perhaps I call sell some of my pictures and get enough money to afford to leave the bank and became a real artist. Then I can travel around as much as I like, and go to foreign museums, and see other artists ‘paintings, and study in other countries when I feel like it. Though I try to make the best of the job and I don’t regard the work as difficult – at least not at present – I don’t like life in a bank. I only enjoy painting”.

In the bank, Sebastian sometimes had to deal with a man who owned a picture shop, and after he had had a few conversations with him, Sebastian invited him to his home one evening to see some of his works. “Then perhaps you could tell me whether I can really be a good artist and get some money from my painting,” Sebastian said hopefully.

The man said he was prepared to come and see what he thought of Sebastian’ work, so he arrived one evening at Sebastian’s home. Sebastian took the man to his studio and started to show him some of his pictures, with some pride and hope.

The man looked at them one after the other while Sebastian watched his face, but to Sebastian’s disappointment the man did not say anything, and his expression did not change at any of them either.
